Inscribed in pen and ink, upper center to center: "Black Granite | 3 Inches breadth | 4 3/5 Inches long | 2 3/4 Inches high | Ancient British Urn supposed for the purpose of Holding Holy Unction, with the Arms of WIlliam the Conqueror"; center: "greenish | green | green"; lower center: "found in the ruins of the Ancient Castle at Eye Suffolk - Which castle & abby was built by the Conqueror & afterwards given to Robert the Mallet."
