This scale drawing for a silver candlestick is one of thirteen designs for Rococo furniture and ornament (B1975.2.56 – B.1975.2.68) from the hand of more than one artist. All were long assumed to be British and to have been made in the mid-eighteenth century but more recently both Tim Knox and Tessa Murdoch identified this drawing as the work of a French designer. In 2015 Paul Micio attributed it to a French ornemaniste of the 1770s working in the circle of Jacques Roëttiers and his son, Jacques-Nicolas Roëttiers.
