Gallery Label:: These jasperware medallions, intended for use as buttons, were originally modeled in wax on slate by the gem engraver Edward Burch. “Mr. Burch’s Bill,” including “18 horses at 16s each,” appears in Josiah Wedgwood’s accounts for 1788–89.
