Notes:
In 1823 James Hetley opened a glass warehouse at 35 Soho Square, London. Other members of his family were already in the trade in London selling glass shades, and Hetley's Camden Road branch was probably a workshop. Little is known of the business's activity before 1851, when Hetley exhibited a stained glass window at the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park. In 1879 James Hetley & Co. were appointed by W.E. Chance & Co. of Oldbury as sole agents for colored antique glass in London and the south of England. The bulk of the business was with Chance Brothers of Smethwick, linking antique glass with the closely allied business of decorated leaded window glass.
