"[The] famous Apostle jug ... was produced in huge quantities and set a standard by which virtually all relief-moulded jugs are now judged ... It has been suggested that this design was based on sixteenth century Rhineland stonewares, but Meigh must have adapted it in an attempt to profit from the early nineteenth century popularity of the revived Gothic style ... The popularity of the basic design led Meigh to issue a tea set consisting of a small milk jug with a matching teapot and covered sugar box ..."--Henrywood.
