Notes:: Richard Parkes Bonington was an English landscape painter, born on October 25, 1803 in Arnold, near Nottingham. His professional education was predominantly French, after his family moved to France in 1817, and he studied under Baron Antoine-Jean Gros. He developed a reputation for his works of marine, coast, and river views, and was especially known for his watercolors and graphite drawings. He died on September 23, 1828 in London of tuberculosis.
