"This suberb assemblage comprises numerous chef d'Ĺ“uvres, which have contributed importance to many foreign cabinets, and have been further celebrated by engravings made from them: among them are that grand masterpiece of Parmegiano, the Vision of St. Jerome, originally brought to England by the Marquess of Abercorn; an Assumption, by Guido, from the Cathedral at Seville; and the Portrait of Neve from the Casa de los Venerables; the Balbi Rubens landscape, a Storm in Harvest; exquisite Dutch specimens from the Cabinets of Choiseuil, Van Smidt, &c.; Mrs. Siddons as the Tragic Muse; and the Portrait of Dr. Johnson, by Sir Joshua Reynolds, &c. &c."
