Notes:
Francis Frith is best known for his landscape and architectural photographs of the Middle East in the 1850s and early 1860s. His company, based in Reigate, Surrey, went on to create and promote one of the most extensive offerings of photographic views from Great Britain, Europe, North Africa, India and America over the following decades and was one of the most successful photographic companies in the world. Some of the company's albums and series of mounted prints appeared under this title "Frith's Photo-Pictures" in the late 1860s, with a subtitle denoting which country or region was the focus of interest (e.g. Gernsheim, Incunabula, nos. 395 "English Scenery," 396 "The Lake District" and 438 "Dovedale").
