Notes:
Robert Trollope was a 17th century English architect, born in Yorkshire, who worked mainly in Northumberland and Durham. He was also the architect of Netherwitton Hall and the old Exchange at Newcastle. Osbourne's Fort, more commonly known as Fort on the Heugh, is situated on the southern edge of Holy Island, Northumberland. It is understood to have been built in 1675 to house guns, in order to help to protect the small harbor known as the Ouse, and apparently in response to the threat of Dutch privateers on the east. A plan of the fort by M. Beckman dated 1683 states "Platforms and redoubt made and designed by Dan. Collingwood Esquire and Mr Robt. Trollope."
