Inscribed in artist's hand in pen and brown ink, verso: "69 July, 31| [...] part 1. very near busy a Grandpapa | This is the view of Windsor wch artists | in general prefer - I was sent / to it by a connoiseur | it is just opposite ye wooden bridge 4849 5052 | [illegible] nearly opposite 59 in ye top corner | Then again I am duty bound to acknowledge | that had the Round Tower not been raised the general effect would have been bad | The rest of the Castle being raised one story it was | only preserving its pre-eminince I am happy | [to] add that its diameter was contimplated to have been | [pro]portionably augmented but they cd not get good [...]dation [...] built on ye old walls."
