Inscribed on verso in pen and brown ink, lower left: "Sale 6 June 1804"; on accompanying sheet in pen and brown ink: "We suppose this to be one of [the] best visas, that can | be obtained of [the] highest mountain in [the] country, where | it stands. Its sides are covered with wood, [and] rock al- | most to its very summit, wh. rises in a cone. When [the] sun shines, all [the] parts of wh. [the] mountain consists, | recieve uncommon richness. __ The [...] of [the] mountan | extend far, [and] wide. on all sides. On [the] side next [the] eye, they | reach down to [the] road, where [the] 2 men are walking. | The high woody ground, on this side, may be supposed to | be an appendage of [the] mountain. The road winds far to the | right, round [the] bottom of [the] mountain; breaking out, here [and] | there, into various little paths, [and] openings on its [...], wh. [m...] | of course open great variety of beautiful visas, [and] passages."
