PHILIP SIDNEY. | To the Right Honorable George EARL OF LEICESTER BARON DE FERRARS, &c.&c.&c. with Permission | This PLATE is inscribed by his Lordship's much obliged, most obedient & most humble servant, J.MORTIMER. | Sir Philip Sidney General of the Horse under his Uncle the Earl of Leicester, after he had received his death wound at the Battle of Zutphen, & overcome with thirst from excessive bleeding, he called for drink; which was | immediately brought him; at the moment a poor Soldier mortally wounded was carried along, who fixed his eyes eagerly on the bottle just as he was lifting it to his mouth; upon which he instantly Order'd it to him with these | words thy necessity is yet greater then mine. | Publish'd as the Act directs, Jany, 30th. 1788, by Mrs. Mortimer, Norfolk Street, Strand."
