On object: recto, in graphite, across entire surface: illegible writing, faded or erased. Visible: in sky, "<the [white or whole] of>"; in water: "<only [...] of the whole [...] or>"; and "<now doing [or drawing?] for>" On accompanying board: in black ink, upper center: "View of the village of Chaillot &c.,| taken from Pont de la Concorde."; in gray ink, lower left: "Note that whole of water| has at one time been [...]alled over with Girtin's| suggestions -- unfortunately rubbed out.| MH. May 07."; in black ink, lower center: "A few words only legible| 'The white ... ' in sky.| 'of the whole ... ' in water.| These are in Girtin's writing. | I have compared carefully."; in black ink, center, crossed out: " This is a latte [crossed out] later state| than that at S.K. Some corrections | noted by Girtin on S.K. proof have| been carried out."; in gray ink, right, replacing inscription above: "This is a unique working proof. MH.| The S.K. plate with | Girtin's suggestions was| evidently unsatisfactory (much underbiitten)| & this is working proof., from a fresh plate [underlined],| of the print as published.| MF. June 08."
