The Australian-born Henry Lamb studied painting in London and Paris but returned to his medical studies in Britain in 1914, and served in the Royal Army Medical Corps throughout the First World War. In February 1940, Lamb was appointed an official war artist, and he produced a large number of paintings and portraits for the War Artists’ Advisory Committee, particularly of Canadian troops stationed in Sussex, England.
