Henry Bracken, M.D. (1697-1764) apparently referred to on the title-page is probably not the author of this book, for, having died in 1764, he could not have contributed to the revision or improvement of any work of William Taplin's, since Taplin began publishing works on veterinary medicine about 1788 (cf. Annual register, 1807, p. 551).
Published in York in 1790 under title: Taplin improved, or, A compendium of farriery.
A York 1792 edition of apparently the same work is listed in the Brit. Mus. Cat. as "A new edition" of Henry Bracken's Farriery improv'd; and American editions appeared in Baltimore in 1794 and in Philadelphia in 1796 and 1798 under Bracken's name with title: Farriery improved. It is not, however, the some work as Bracken's Farriery improv'd, published in London in 2 v., 1734-43.
Published anonymously in New Haven in 1816 under title: A complete treatise on the art of farriery. Published in Troy, N.Y., in 1862 under title: The American farrier, or New-York horse doctor; being a further improvement upon Adancourt's "Taplin improved."
