The Geneva version of the Old Testament, translated by William Whittingham, Anthony Gilby, Thomas Sampson, and perhaps others, with Laurence Tomson's revision of the Geneva version of the New Testament and his translation of Franciscus Junius' translation of Revelation.
With an elaborate engraved architectural title by William Hole, depicting the Tribes of Israel and the Twelve Apostles. Page [6] contains a full-page woodcut illustration of the Garden of Eden.
Includes woodcut illustrations, maps, intitials, and head- and tail-pieces throughout the text.

BAC: British Art Center copy has inserted at front a hand-painted miniature depicting the deathbed of Thomas Braythwait, of Ambleside Hall, in Cumbria. The painting is cataloged separately as: Thomas Braythwait making his will. Opposite the painting, is full-page painting of Thomas Braythwait's coat of arms, apparently executed by a professional arms painter. Preceding the coat of arms is a specially printed bookplate, catalogued separately as: This booke was giuen by legacie from Thomas Braythwait of Ambleside gent. who died in the yeare of our Lord 1607, vnto George Preston of Houlker gent.
BAC: British Art Center copy is also extra-illustrated with 16 additional engraved plates, all uncolored. These include a set of 12 engraved portraits of Old Testament characters by Jacob De Gheyn after Karel Van Mander, with 4 portraits pasted per page; a set of portraits of the 12 Apostles, by Hendrik Goltzius, 1589 (see Hirschmann, 34-47), also pasted 4 to a page; a set of engravings of the four Evangelists by Sadeler (i.e. Jan Sadeler?) after Wolfgang Kilian; portraits of Moses, Maria, and Aaron by Jacob Matham, after Giuseppe Cesari; and an engraving of Moses and the serpent by Crispin de Passe.
BAC: British Art Center copy bound in contemporary gilt-tooled olive-brown morocco, with original bosses and clasps. Columns and margins are ruled in red throughout.
