- Jacopo d'Angelo's Latin translation from the Greek of Ptolemy's Geographia.
"This edition was commenced by ... Martin Waltzemüller ... about the year 1505 ... Mathias Ringmann ... was also employed on the work. The modern maps were prepared by Waltzemüller, and most of them--perhaps all--engraved as early as 1507. The completion of the text, however, was delayed; and in 1508 all of the material passed into the hands of Jacobus Eszler and Georgius Ubelin ... who edited and finally published the work in 1513"--Sabin.

The first two of the modern maps have interest as Americana. "The first ... includes an outline of the northeastern part of the South American continent ... the islands Isabella and Spagnola, and another fragmentary coast line ... The other ('Tabvla Terre Nove') is one of the earliest printed maps devoted entirely to the new world."--Sabin.
The map of Lorraine (Lotharingia), surrounded by coats of arms & printed in 3 colors, was the first printed of that Duchy & is considered one of the earliest known specimens of printing in colors.

BAC: British Art Center copy includes two versions of the woodcut map of the British Isles ("Tabvla Prima Evropae"). The first, commonly found in the atlas, is printed in black and hand-colored. In the second (much rarer) version, map delineations are again printed in black, while the surrounding seas are printed in brown. The second version is an earlier, proof copy--some text is omitted and other text is misspelled. The remaining maps are hand-colored throughout.
