Notes:
Title from artist's website.
Consists of two slates, on which are inscribed the phrases "a stone", "a door", and "a crossroads". With three sheets of blank, hand-made wove paper, and a metal tipped stylus with wooden handle. Enclosed within a simple gray paper board case.
"... thinking of classrooms and learning parrot fashion endless pages of information that I cannot now recall, of chalk dust floating in the sunlight, carving names in wooden desks and the sound of nibs scratching on paper ... now thinking of my children and the way they are encouraged to interact with ideas, problems and textbooks. They become part of the learning process by doing, exploring. There are no rights and no wrongs in the journey to the end result ... using slate with marks made upon its surface, the meaning of which can only be revealed when paper is paced against it and a third party is involved in an action ... paper that is fine, fragile, to be treated with respect, that can impart words that make us think question, inquire ... a box, plain and unassuming, opens to show slate, paper, crayon--work it out, make it yours ..."--Artist's website, describing the present work.
Limited edition of 15 copies.
