Based upon the Herbarius, printed by Schoeffer in 1484 (Goff H62). Sometimes incorrectly treated as a German translation of the Hortus Sanitatis, a later different work, first printed by Jacob Meydenbach in 1491 (Goff H486), that was also based on the Herbarius. Cf. Goff.

Contains nearly 400 woodcut illustrations, mostly of plants and a few animals. Full-page wood-cut illustration on leaf [1]v depicts an assembly of 13 physicians, 3 seated, in front of a 2-pillared arcade; at left is a fruit tree, at right is a palm tree. Cf. Schreiber.

BAC Leaf Collection no. 0425: Imperfect: six leaves only, with woodcut illustrations depicting nigella, an elephant, mandragora, astrens, borago, and balsamita. From a collection of fifteenth- and sixteenth-century printed leaves compiled by Frederick Werther, with his enumeration stamped in ink.
