Title on frontispiece: Farm houses and cottages in England and Wales.
British Architectural Library suggests that this title is a later issue of a new printing of Views of cottages and farm-house in England and Wales / Francis Stevens. London : Ackermann, 1815, with the imprint of M.A. Nattali. Nattali did not begin trading until 1825 and this title first appears in a Nattali catalogue of around 1850 implying that the 'work was remaindered by Ackermann during the 1840s'.
The source of the text is anonymous. Stephen Bann attributes authorship to Edward James Wilson (1787-1854), a protege of John Britton who later became a prominent architect and antiquarian in his native city of Lincoln. The text was probably written soon after the etchings were produced (they are dated 1815).
M.A. Nattali traded at 23 Bedford Street from 1844 to 1850. Cf. Brown. London publishers and printers.
All plates bear Ackermann's imprint, dated between January and June 1815.
Plate 53 is placed between plates 43 and 44. Plates 48 and 49 are placed in reverse order. Though numerically out of order, this sequence of places the plates adjacent to the relevant letterpress.
