Notes:
A second volume (called an "Appendix" by Fowler) was published between 12 March 1805 and 2 October 1809, and a third (a "second appendix") between 1810 and 1824. Further plates were also published.
The title is taken from the first general prospectuses printed for the work in 1804. The imprint is taken from the plate publication-lines, which appear on most plates.
When issued, each plate was protected with a tissue guard.

Crawford, J.L.L. Bibliotheca Lindesiana. Collations and notes. No.2. Fowler's Mosaic pavements, &c.
BAC Folio B 2024 22 Copy 1: Bound in contemporary half calf and marbled boards. Includes letterpress prospectuses. Armorial bookplate: Belton House.
BAC Folio B 2024 22 Copy 2: Bound in contemporary marbled boards, rebacked. Includes letterpress prospectuses.
BAC Folio B 2024 22 Copy 3: Imperfect: lacks dedication leaf and plates 7, 11-14, 17, and 22-27. Unbound. Includes letterpress prospectuses. In portfolio with: plates 1-6 of the second volume (Appendix 1), with a second copy of plate 4 (loose); and plate 4 of the third volume (Appendix 2).
The work consists of 28 unnumbered plates (all but the first numbered 1-21 and 1-6 in Fowler's prospectus). Plate [1] is a dedication "To ... Sir Joseph Banks ... ", [2-22] are show tesselated pavements and [23-28] show stained glass. The publication-lines and/or signatures are dated between 1796 and 5 July 1804. The plates were also available separately, and letterpress prospectuses were printed for some of the individual prints. In many cases, examples of some at least of these prospectuses were inserted into copies of the volume described here, following the plates they describe. In the cases of plates [3] and [10] (Fowler's numbers 2 and 9), letterpress descriptions (rather than prospectuses) were printed to accompany the plates. These give "A translation of the Latin inscription ..." ([1] leaf with the imprint "Hull: printed by W. Rawson ... ") and a "Copy of a letter, containing a description of a Roman pavement found near Grantham, Lincolnshire; ... By W. Stukeley ..." (3, [1] p. with a note by Fowler dated Winterton, 7 February 1801, and the imprint "W. Brooke, printer, Lincoln.") respectively.
