"The eighth [German Bible]"--Historical catalogue of the printed editions of Holy Scripture in the Library of the British and Foreign Bible Society. Eighth of 14 related High German Bibles printed between 1516 and 1518, all presenting a complete translation of the Vulgate in a Spanish recension. See: "Oberdeutsche Bibeldrucke (vollständige Bibeln)," by Heimo Reinitzer, in: Die deutsche Literatur des Mittelalters: Verfasserlexikon, Bd. 6, Lfg. 3/4, c1987, columns 1276-1290.
The second German Bible printed by Anton Sorg (following ISTC ib00630000, dated 20 June 1477). Paginary reprint of the sixth German Bible, which was the second German Bible printed by Günther Zainer, Augsburg, 1477 (ISTC ib00629000).
Signatures: v. 1: [1-3¹⁰ 4¹⁰(4+chi1) 5-33¹⁰] (leaf [1₁] blank); v. 2: [1-33¹⁰ 34-35⁶].
Several folios wrongly numbered.
Printed in 2 columns. Gothic type (Proctor 1670); 51 lines. With foliation and headlines; without catchwords and signature marks. Initial spaces, with guide letters.
Illustrations: 75 historiated woodcut initials, comprising 23 large initials in v. 1 and one small and 51 large initials (including 4 repeats) in v. 2, and numerous smaller ornamental initials. The historiated initials, with the exception of the "Esdras" D on leaf ccxl of v. 1 (Schramm, v. 4, no. 492) and the "child" D on leaf ij of v. 2 (Schramm, v. 4, no. 493), are from the same blocks as those in the Bible printed in Augsburg in 1477 by Günther Zainer (reproduced in Schramm, v. 2, plates 81-86, figures 609-625, 627-635, 637-679).

BAC Leaf Collection no. 0280: Imperfect: comprises five leaves and three cuttings. The full leaves include leaves ii, xxviii, CClviii, CCxv, and CCCxx. The three cuttings feature large woodcut initials. Woodcuts are hand-colored. From a collection of fifteenth- and sixteenth-century printed leaves compiled by Frederick Werther, with his enumeration stamped in ink.
