Volume 1, May 1906-May 1907, includes description of Etruscan antiquities in the region that comprises parts of present day Tuscany, Lazio, and Umbria in central Italy. In Assisi, Tribe makes notes on the San Damiano church and other religious sites, followed by a travel account of the journey from Assisi to Orvieto in Umbria. Tribe visits the frescoed Etruscan tombs at Poggio del Roccolo di Settecamini, between Orvieto and Porano. Tribe makes a long list of “Etruscan cemeteries worth visiting” between Orvieto and Rome, describing their particular significance, their distance from nearby cities, and particular features that one can find in those places. The volume includes includes three drawings of scenes in Perugia and six pages of drawings depicting urns and vessels, with notes on their origins and Greek names.
Volume 2, May-July 1907, is part sketchbook and part diary. It includes 41 drawings of scenery and monuments in Orvieto, Viterbo, Perugia, Arezzo, and Siena, accompanied by textual descriptions. Subject matter includes Castello Aragonese; an Etruscan tomb at d’Asso; an inside view of the cloisters of Perugia; a distant view of Porta Sole; an ancient gate of the Etruscan city walls of Perugia; the pillar-styled apse and the bell tower of Chiesa di Santa Maria della Pieve in Arezzo; cobblestone streets and archways in Siena, and the "cognizance of Viterbo." Most of Tribe's descriptions are excerpts from books about the region. Other notes are transcriptions of writings in the museums that he visits, such as Museo archeologico di Firenze. Notes that are based on Tribe's own observations are signed with his initials.
