- A carte-de-visite portrait of Reverend Alfred Henry Malan (in profile) is inserted at the front of the album. Two photographs of a building, possibly a church and graveyard, are also inserted at the back of the album.
The front cover of the album is decorated with the text "A.H.M. 1870," suggesting the album was compiled by (or for) Reverend Alfred Henry Malan, who attended the University of Oxford.

Bound in red leather with blind framing on boards, gilt initials on front cover, and metal clasps.
In addition to the card photographs (primarily portraits), the album also includes photographs of scenery, landscapes, and city streets, as well as several photographs of ships. Though there is a partial focus on Oxford, a number of other photographs focus on notable tourist scenery in England and Continental Europe. Some of the photographs are decorated with colorful frames and some pages are painted with decorative embellishments and borders. The album includes printed images of the heraldic shields of Oxford and St. Alban Hall, pasted onto mounts from Wheeler & Day photographers, as well as a hand-painted heraldic shield of Keble College. - Subject Terms:
