Date is extrapolated based on the stationary from the Grand Hotel Locarno that is dated "190_" with the end digit left blank to be filled in. Of the years from 1900 to 1909, the dates and days of the week in the diary align with the year 1906.
Three different types of stationary are included. Four sheets are from the Grand Hotel Locarno with an engraved headpiece of the hotel and surrounding landscape. Two sheets are from Hotel Bear in Grindelwald bearing a wood engraving illustration of the hotel and nearby glacier accompanied by two other decorative illustrated scenes. Two sheets are from the Grand Hotel Thunerhof with an engraved headpiece of the hotel alongside Hotel Bellevue.
Diary written on folded, unbound sheets of stationary from various hotels with black ink in a single hand. The diarist is an unnamed individual, possibly a servant or nanny, who works for an English family, consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Jones and their son Theo. The entries begin Saturday, May 5th in Italy and end Wednesday, August 22nd in Switzerland. Content and length of entries vary from longer accounts about the day to short comments about the weather and her day to day chores. The diarist appears to have an interest in art, as longer entries include an anecdote about an artist who sold his painting to the Queen of England, a description of her time at a gallery, and detailed accounts of a Venitian glass showroom and glass factory that the family visited. The diary also includes a few entries about her free time spent with acquaintances, possibily individuals she met while traveling or at one of the hotels where the family stayed, as well as descriptions about the family's travel routes and road conditions. Cities visited include Florence, Bologna, Venice, Sirmione, Lucerne, Andermatt, Meiringen, Interlaken, and Thun.
