- Notes:
- In the early 1880s, the Community of the Sisters of the Church established St. Mary's Convalescent Home and Orphanage at Broadstairs. Its first site was at Wrotham Road. In 1887 it moved to a larger purpose-built building, with 300 beds, at 20 Stone Road.
The front of the card features a photograph of seven children, above a grid of 120 empty squares.
The verso is printed in letterpress, within red rules: "Sea-side home at Broadstairs, for the children of the poor. 'Freely ye have received, freely give.' 120 squares to be filled with 120 pence = ten shillings. You are earnestly requested to give a penny towards a sea-side home for sickly and convalescent children of the very poorest class. There are many little sufferers, especially in London and other large towns, who would be completely restored to health and strength by a visit of a few weeks to the sea-side. Will you help them to procure this blessing ... 'It is not the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should perish." Also, at top: "Address: 27 Kilburn Park Road, London, N.W." At bottom: "This card should be returned, filled, to Miss A.M. Thomas, two months after date of issue." - Subject Terms:
