The jug depicts two lamassu: a winged bull with human head on one side; a winged lion with human head on the other. With a handle in the form of twined snakes, and Assyrian letters beneath the spout. The designs are copied from Austen Henry Layard's A popular account of discoveries at Nineveh (1851). - Subject Terms:
