The mount is made from ruled paper and gilt metal. In velvet-lined morocco case, with two functioning catches.
The daguerreotype reproduces The Coronation of Queen Victoria in Westminster Abbey, 28 June 1838, an oil painting by George Hayter (1792-1871). Hayter dated the painting 1839; it was completed in 1840. In Hayter's painting, the Queen is seated on the Coronation Chair, wearing the Imperial State Crown and holding in her right hand the Sceptre with the Cross and in her left the Sceptre with the Dove. See: Royal Collection (RCIN 405409).
The daguerreotype was presumably taken directly from the original painting, circa 1841.
