- Notes:
- Maharani Bamba, Lady Duleep Singh (born Bamba Müller), was the wife of Maharaja Sir Duleep Singh. The child of a German banker and his Abyssinian mistress (a Coptic Christian enslaved woman), Bamba was raised by Christian missionaries in Cairo. In June 1864 she married Maharaja Duleep Singh, becoming Maharani Bamba. The couple settled in Elveden, Norfolk, where they raised six children. The present carte de visite was presumably taken soon after their marriage, at which time Bamba would have been 16 years old. At the time the photographer Antoine Claudet had a portrait studio at 107 Regent Street in London.
Printed on verso: "From Irvine's Photographic Studio, Aberfeldy. Negatives kept. Copies can always be had."
