- John Bodington served as beadle at Goldsmiths' Hall from 1714 until his death in 1727.
"The 'official of the Goldsmiths' was the beadle of that livery company, who apparently ran the reward-notice distribution system scheme as a personal sideline. ... "Numb. 11598. October 11, 1727. Stolen out of a gentleman's house on Friday last, a silver quart tankard, graved at the bottom Richard Savage, cook, at the Angel in the Old Change. If offer'd to be sold, pawn'd or valued, pay stop it and the party, and give notice to the beadle of Goldsmith's-Hall, and you shall have two guineas reward; and if already bought, your money again with consent.
