BEIN ZZi 6895: A note of the printer's on verso of signature m6 certifies that in spite of the break in the series of the signature-letters no leaves are wanting. A manuscript note below the colophon, half obliterated, seems to be a statement of this copy having been given to the "Monasteriam Sanctae Mariae Connatae Sancti ordinis fratrum heremitarum(?)."
BEIN ZZi: F. 6a, col. 1, line 8 has been corrected in manuscript; the last word apparently read originally premis / imus, not premisi / mus or p[re]misi / mus as the Gesamt-katalog states. On the same leaf col. l, line 10, the last six letters of vegetabil are in manuscript. Index (4 unsigned ff.) misbound at end of book; it is possible that these ff. have been supplied from another copy of this edition. Stains on the lower margins of the index. Binding of brown calf, with shelf-back of red morocco.
BEIN ZZi: Large initial at the beginning of book 1 in gold and colors; capital spaces blank, a few with guide-letters.
Imprint from colophon; full colophon reads: Finit feliciter opus Alberti Magni philophi de animalibus: [et] impressum Mantue per Paulum Ioha[n]nis de Bursehbach alamanum Maguntine[sis] dioce[sis] sub anno d[omi]ni millesimo quadringentessimo septuagesimonono: die uero duodecima Ianuarij: regnante ibide[m] felicissime illustrissimo domino d[omi]no Friderico d[e] Gonzaga Marchione tercio.
Butzbach also published this work in collaboration with Marcus Mazola, a notary of Brescia, and Antonius de Vignono, a Venetian bookseller.--Cf. BM 15th cent.
Printed on Super-royal folio paper, measuring 44.2 x 29 cm. Printed in 2 columns; 62 lines to a full page; col. width: 69 mm; area of text: 279 x 166 mm. With initial spaces, some with guide-letters; without foliation and catchwords. Table at front.
Signatures: pi⁴ a-c⁸ d¹⁰ e-i⁸ k¹⁰ l-m⁶ y⁸ z⁶ A¹⁰ B-I⁸ K¹⁰ L-P⁸ Q⁶ R-S⁸ T¹⁰ V-X⁸ Y-Z¹⁰ (al blank).
Printer's note on m6v explains that text continues on y1.
Final page blank.
