"The first University Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge was held in 1829. This annual event led to the production of numerous prints and souvenirs. A typical example of the latter is a chapbook of the 1860s entitled The boat race and who went to it (priced 6d), which described the event in doggerel and included crude woodcuts of the race and spectators."--Rickards.
The illustration in the fourth panel is signed: "J.F. Nash sc." The remaining panels are unsigned.
H.G. Clarke & Co. was active at 2 Garrick Street from 1868 to 1885. See: Brown, P.A. London publishers and printers.
The publication lacks a series statement, but its format mirrors that of items in the series: Clarke's whims and oddities.
