Like other Quaker Books of Discipline, the text is arranged alphabetically with one letter per page, here drawn in a Celtic style featuring human figures, animals, birds and mystical beasts. The final page is annotated "Joseph Hagger His Book Chisshill 1773." The book comprises 24 letters on 24 pages (letters J and U are omitted), with the eight letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G & I having the addition of a biblical passage emphasizing a Quaker moral code. The remaining 16 pages have the drawn initial letters awaiting the insertion of the biblical passage at a later date. - Subject Terms:
