The London Journal of Arts and Sciences (1824, page 166) notes a patent registered "to Henry Adcock, of Summer Hill Terrace, in the Parish of Birmingham and County of Wawrick, gilt toy manufacturer, for his invention of an improvement in making waistbands, or umbilical, ventrical, lumbar, and spinal bandages, or supporters to be attached to coats, waistcoats, breeches, pantaloons, and trousers, to be either permanently fixed, or occasionally attached and supplied."
