Album of seven drawings, in pen and black ink, depicting St. Mary's Church and Nash's Field, in Herriard, Hampshire. The drawings, skillful in execution, are unsigned. The captions to some of the drawings are dated 1836. The drawings include prospects of the church and grounds, architectural details, and a ground plan.
The views provide important information on St. Mary's prior to its restoration. The old church was probably built by Sir Richard de Herrierd, ca. 1200, and was dedicated to St. Mary. Until the mid-1800s there was a square wooden turret at the west of the nave with external brick steps leading to a square-headed door. The turret became unsafe (and reputedly collapsed), after which the church was substantially rebuilt and restored by Francis Jervoise, with the addition of the new stone tower, being completed in 1878. There is still an area in Herriard known as Nash's Green Field, and the name occurs again at Herriard Park (Nash's covert).
