The slides are slip (or slipping) slides, each containing two panes of images on glass, from which movement or a transformation can be expressed by sliding one of the panes back or forth.
The slides are partially contained in a contemporary wooden case, which is lacking the lid. One of the frames is blind-stamped "Newton, 2 Fleet Street, London," and another is inscribed "WAN Copyright No 52."
