Manuscript diaries kept by Catherine Cooper and her husband during two excursions on the Continent, in 1829 and 1831.
The first volume (121 pages) is titled Journal of a tour through some parts of Holland, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and France in the summer of 1829 and is written by Mr. Cooper. Diary entries are kept from May 30 to July 10. It is his first trip abroad, and he concludes with a lengthy section devoted to his thoughts on the benefits of traveling. The second volume (130 pages), untitled except for Catherine's name and date on the endpapers, commences two years later, covering dates from June 25 to August 3, 1831. Catherine travels without her husband or children, and the majority of this time is spent in Paris, visiting numerous sights of interest and ending with a ball. - Subject Terms:
