- Scope and Content:
- Smirke has received a letter from his brother in Tunbridge Wells stating that "seven of his slight preliminary canvas sketches for book plates have been called for by the RA & they[?] are taking 12 in all to be exhibited of the work of Smirke the Elder." Smirke is unhappy that Hart has selected "sketches" to be exhibited. Smirke wishes that he (Smirke) had instead procured two or three of the "Boydell Collection" from "persons willing to lend them" to the RA.
