- Begins: “there is something in the design of this work which differs much from any I have seen hitherto.” It offers descriptions of the caves, along their dimensions, and provides limited comments on layout and sculpture. The author—presumably Wales—notes the process of excavation and leaves blank spaces for plate numbers and proper nouns (such as deities represented by sculpture). There are edits made to the text throughout.
