- Series I primarily contains correspondence between John Baskett and Paul Mellon regarding the purchase of art for Mellon’s collection. Also included is some correspondence between Baskett and various assistants, curators, and librarians at Mellon's Oak Spring residence. There is also a folder of reproduced correspondence between Baskett, Mellon, and Basil Taylor from the 1960s.
